JSW MG Motor India Accelerates to Second Spot in India’s Luxury EV Segment Amid Blockbuster Demand

In a stunning leap forward for India’s burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) landscape, JSW MG Motor India has surged to the position of the country’s second-largest luxury carmaker in September 2025. The milestone is fueled by overwhelming demand for its flagship launches, the electrifying MG Cyberster sports car and the opulent MG M9 Presidential Limousine, according to Vahan registration data. Both models are now grappling with waiting periods of up to four months, a clear sign of the frenzy among high-net-worth buyers.

This achievement underscores JSW MG’s aggressive push into the premium EV space, where it clocked 3,912 EV units sold last month—a threefold year-over-year (YoY) increase from 1,021 units in September 2024. Overall, the company reported total monthly sales of 6,728 units, marking a robust 34% YoY growth compared to 5,021 units the previous year. The surge aligns with broader market tailwinds, including a recent GST reduction on EVs and the festive fervor of Navratri, which have boosted consumer sentiment and propelled sales momentum.

Citing Milind Shah, Interim Head of MG Select, NDTV highlighted the brand’s triumph: “Securing the second spot in India’s luxury EV segment is a testament to the phenomenal response our models have received. Both the MG Cyberster and the MG M9 Presidential Limousine are drawing discerning customers who seek something truly exclusive, whether it’s the sheer exhilaration of open-top performance or the presence of uncompromising luxury. At MG Select, we’re proud to create this exclusive ownership experience.”

At the heart of this success story is the MG Cyberster, an all-electric roadster that made its Indian debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 before hitting showrooms in July 2025. Priced at an introductory ₹74.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the Cyberster boasts a blistering 0-100 km/h sprint in just 3.2 seconds, powered by dual electric motors delivering 510 PS and 725 Nm of torque. Its 77 kWh battery offers an impressive 580 km range, complemented by scissor doors and a convertible top for that quintessential sports car thrill.Through its upscale MG Select retail network, JSW MG has sold 256 units of the Cyberster since launch—crowning it India’s best-selling sports car and racking up a four-month backlog. “The Cyberster isn’t just a car; it’s a statement,” noted industry observers, as the model’s AWD setup and premium features like adaptive suspension have captivated enthusiasts.

Complementing the Cyberster’s sporty allure is the MG M9 Presidential Limousine, a seven-seater electric MPV launched alongside it in July 2025 at ₹69.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Dubbed the “Presidential Limousine,” it redefines luxury mobility with a 90 kWh battery promising 548 km of range, advanced ADAS safety, and seven airbags. The rear “Presidential Seats” steal the spotlight, offering 16-way electric adjustability, eight massage modes, ventilation, heating, and even ottomans for ultimate relaxation. A dual yacht-style panoramic sunroof adds to the yacht-like ambiance, making it a favorite for VIP transport and family fleets alike.

Both vehicles are exclusively retailed via MG Select, JSW MG’s dedicated luxury channel, which has been instrumental in curating bespoke ownership experiences for India’s elite.

JSW MG’s ascent comes at a pivotal time for India’s luxury EV segment. Overall passenger EV sales doubled to 15,329 units in September 2025, with Tata Motors leading at 6,216 units. In the luxury bracket, BMW holds the top spot with 310 units sold last month—a 167% YoY jump—while JSW MG’s 3,912 EV units (including non-luxury models) position it firmly in second place among premium players. Mercedes-Benz also reported record sales, up 36% YoY, driven by GST 2.0 incentives.

The GST cut has been a game-changer, lowering effective prices and drawing first-time luxury buyers—nearly half of BMW’s demand stems from newcomers to the segment. For JSW MG, this blend of internal combustion engine (ICE) and EV models has not only sustained growth but also accelerated expansion plans, including new dealerships and charging infrastructure.
