VinFast VF6 Makes a Bold Entry into India’s EV Market

VinFast has officially entered the Indian market, and not many expected such a strong debut with not one but two electric SUVs – the VF6 and VF7. Let’s take a closer look at the VF6, a compact yet feature-rich electric SUV that aims to shake up India’s already competitive EV segment.

Standout Features

The VF6 comes loaded with features that many rivals don’t offer even in higher segments. Standard equipment includes:

  • 360-degree camera
  • Seven airbags
  • ABS, ESS, and ESC
  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) support with radar sensors

Adding to this, VinFast has introduced two unique offerings:

  1. Three years of free charging at VinFast’s “V-Green” charging stations (expected rollout across India).
  2. Three years of free maintenance, a bold move that adds massive value for first-time EV buyers.

This strategy not only reduces running costs but also helps tackle “range anxiety,” a common concern among new EV users.

Dimensions and Design

At 4.2 meters in length with a 2700 mm wheelbase, the VF6 fits into the compact SUV segment but feels fresh and modern on Indian roads.

  • Front Design: Aggressive styling with VinFast’s signature V-shaped DRLs, projector LED headlamps, and radar sensor integration.
  • Side Profile: 18-inch alloy wheels with disc brakes on all four wheels, 225/55 R18 tyres, and a sloping roofline for a sporty appeal.
  • Rear Design: Connected LED taillights, roof spoiler with integrated stop lamp, and four parking sensors.

Ground clearance stands at 190 mm, making it practical for Indian roads.

Interiors and Technology

Inside, the VF6 carries a minimalist, futuristic vibe.

  • 12.9-inch tilted infotainment display (driver-focused) with integrated speedometer and vehicle data.
  • Heads-Up Display (HUD) for essential driving information.
  • Vegan leather upholstery with copper/piano-black finishes.
  • Large panoramic glass roof (top variants) with manual sunshade.
  • Adjustable thigh support in seats – rare in this price bracket.
  • Ample storage options, rear armrest with cupholders, and rear AC vents.

Boot space is adequate for family use, though not class-leading. No spare wheel is offered; instead, under-floor storage is available for toolkits.

Powertrain and Performance

The VF6 is offered in three trims – Earth, Wind, and Wind Infinity.

  • Earth Variant: 130 kW motor, 250 Nm torque, 0–100 km/h in ~8.8 seconds.
  • Wind/Wind Infinity Variants: 150 kW motor, 310 Nm torque, 0–100 km/h in ~8.0 seconds.

All variants are front-wheel drive and powered by a 60 kWh battery pack.

  • Earth Variant Range: 468 km (ARAI certified)
  • Wind Variant Range: 463 km (ARAI certified)

Charging: While exact DC fast-charging capacity hasn’t been confirmed, VinFast claims 10–70% charging in just 25 minutes, suggesting at least 100–120 kW DC support.

Pricing and Variants

  • Earth – ₹16.5 lakh
  • Wind – ₹17.8 lakh
  • Wind Infinity – ₹18.3 lakh

This makes the VF6 the most affordable EV in India to offer a 60 kWh battery pack, giving it a clear advantage in terms of range and value.

Warranty and Peace of Mind

  • Vehicle Warranty: 7 years / 2 lakh km
  • Battery Warranty: 10 years / 2 lakh km

This is among the most generous warranty coverage currently available in India.

Competition

The VF6 competes against EVs like the MG ZS EV, Tata Nexon EV, and the upcoming Mahindra BE.05. However, at its price point, the VF6’s combination of long range, premium features, and free charging/maintenance makes it a segment disruptor.
