An all-electric version of the N9, BYD’s flagship SUV under its premium Denza brand, has been revealed in a Chinese regulatory document. Details of the large SUV have been released after China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology published batch 413 of their new vehicle catalog for public consultation on Tuesday. The public consultation will run from November 4 to 10. This is a regulatory requirement and doesn’t indicate full approval. The all-electric N9 has a three-motor AWD set-up with a combined peak power of 890KW (1194HP). Power is split between the front motor, which can provide 270KW of peak power, and two rear motors which each offer 310KW. This is a large increase from the 680KW power of the plug-in hybrid flash charge variant of the N9 launched in May. It has a top speed of 240km/h. The three permanent magnet synchronous motors are part of BYD’s e3 platform and allows for rear-wheel steering.

The SUV is long at 5270mm, wide at 2030mm and tall at 1830mm. It has an extensive 3125mm wheelbase. It can be purchased as a 5 or 6 seater with the two variants having two different model codes. The certified weight is 3105KG and 3180KG depending on specification. The maximum gross weight of the vehicle is 3760KG. The pure-electric variant uses lithium iron phosphate batteries supplied by BYD’s FinDreams unit, however there was no details on how much battery capacity it has, range or charging capabilities.

Images of the exterior show a sealed front bumper, as would be expected on an EV focused vehicle. There is a roof mounted LiDAR sensor and side cameras. As standard there is a panoramic glass roof and powered side steps. Optional extras include a two-tone paint job, black exterior styling and 22-inch forged wheels. The two variants have differences in their braking systems, one uses braking components from FinDreams and the other uses Bosch components and ESP.

The Denza N9 was launched in March 2025 as a 6-seater PHEV. It has since had a flash charge variant introduced at a starting price of 409,800 yuan. This new fully-electric variant will make the car more appealing to buyers looking for high performance and zero emissions in China’s large luxury SUV market. More details of battery size, range and price will be revealed when the vehicle progresses past the public consultation stage.
