With Pune joining Bremen, the GLC 400 4Matic Electric becomes the first indigenous Mercedes-Benz built on the MB.EA-M platform. Mercedes-Benz India launched production of its all-new Electric GLC at its Chakan facility in Pune, Maharashtra. It will be assembled locally as the GLC 400 4Matic Electric with an ex-showroom price tag of Rs. 78.50 lakh in India. Deliveries will begin in mid-November 2026.

The model represents a milestone for Mercedes-Benz as it is the first Mercedes-Benz built in India on its next-generation MB.EA-M platform. With the start of production in Pune, both Bremen in Germany and Pune are now part of the global production network for the Electric GLC. It is produced on the same flexible assembly line as its combustion-engined counterparts.

The GLC 400 4Matic Electric features a twin motor setup with a combined power output of 360 kW (489 hp), and 800 Nm of torque. Powering the vehicle to 100 km/h from 0 in just 4.3 seconds. It also features an 800V high voltage system which provides DC fast charging up to 330 kW. This allows it to charge from 10-80 per cent in around 22 minutes. Mercedes-Benz India has invested another Rs. 200 crore in 2026 to support the production of the GLC 400 4Matic Electric, new model readiness and digitalisation.

In total, Mercedes-Benz India has invested Rs. 3,200 crore, the most amongst luxury vehicle manufacturers within the country. This highlights the brands commitment to growing their production in India, and also its move towards electrification. The first vehicle was produced in front of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar and senior Mercedes-Benz Group executives.

The Chakan plant has been evolving into a multi-platform plant as it will use camera AI and industry robotics to produce its advanced electric platforms. With the production of the Electric GLC, Mercedes-Benz India have boosted their position in the premium electric SUV market. This also shows how quickly they can localise their platforms for the Indian market. As interest grows for high range luxury electric SUVs, the car will be a key player in their electrification strategy.
