On October 9, the 150,000th new energy commercial vehicle, Electric Truck Tractor Q3, was launched from the smart truck factory of BYD located in Huai’an, Jiangsu province, China. This marks a significant milestone in the history of the commercial new-energy vehicle industry, as it represents 18 years of development and sets a clear direction for the future of heavy-duty trucks and long-haul freight applications.

The Q3 all-electric tractor truck features BYD’s own electric technologies designed for commercial use, including the Blade Battery for commercial vehicles, a dual-motor powertrain capable of delivering a peak output of 600 kW (approximately 800 horsepower), and a dual-gun DC fast-charging system that can charge the battery from 20 to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes. Such powerful technologies are aimed at catering to the needs of long-haul freight, where power, range and fast charging are essential.

It should be noted that this milestone achievement follows the rapid growth of BYD’s commercial business. In terms of sales, the company has achieved an increase of 28.46 percent year-on-year, reaching 53,032 new-energy trucks sold in the first nine months of 2026. Specifically, September saw the sale of 6,848 units, an increase of more than 113 percent compared to the same period last year. In addition, commercial vehicles from BYD are now available in more than 70 countries and regions, and the company’s electric buses have ranked first in terms of annual exports for three consecutive years.

The selection of Q3 as the vehicle that crossed the 150,000-unit threshold demonstrates BYD’s increasing focus on the long-haul heavy-duty truck market. The company has stated that it will deepen its investment in this segment to further expand its truck business. With the continuous improvement of battery, motor and electronic-control technologies, BYD aims to contribute to the sustainable development of the transportation industry and reduce emissions in the fields of freight and logistics around the world.
