Honda’s long awaited entry into India’s electric SUV segment has taken another step closer to reality with the production ready 0 Alpha seen undergoing intensive testing on the roads of Faridabad. The compact electric SUV based on Honda’s global 0 Alpha concept is expected to unveil later in December 2026, with actual market launch expected to start in early 2027. Recently captured video footage showed the test vehicle running through the traffic of Faridabad, revealing the dimensions of the vehicle in the real world. Seen side by side with the Honda Elevate in the middle of the clip, the 0 Alpha appears to be noticeably smaller and more compact. Its overall width appears to be less than or equal to that of the Tata Nexon, a popular compact SUV.

The reduced footprint should make the electric Honda more manageable in tight city traffic, while still providing the elevated seating position and practical packaging that buyers expect from an SUV. As most industry observers know, the 0 Alpha represents Honda’s first global electric SUV and its first serious attempt to compete in India’s burgeoning electric vehicle market. Built upon a dedicated EV architecture, the production model is set to blend Honda’s traditional strengths in terms of ride quality and reliability with the performance, efficiency and technologies typical of modern electric vehicles.

Testing in Faridabad, a common destination for manufacturers looking to gauge real-world conditions, suggests that Honda is fine-tuning the vehicle to meet the needs of Indian roads, weather and driving patterns ahead of its year-end reveal.

By basing the production car on the 0 Alpha concept, Honda appears to be pursuing an aggressive strategy to develop a family of electric vehicles that prioritise clean design, advanced technology and practicality. In the Indian context, the compact size is a critical factor. Buyers in this segment typically value agility and practicality, without sacrificing the elevated seating position and presence that an SUV offers.

By keeping the overall width close to that of the Nexon, Honda appears to be targeting this sweet spot. The mix of urban roads, mixed traffic and varied surfaces found in Faridabad provide the perfect environment to test the suspension tuning, battery thermal management and overall drivability of the 0 Alpha. Engineers are likely to be using the runs to fine-tune the vehicle’s ability to deliver the refined, quiet performance that Honda customers expect, while also meeting the range and charging expectations of Indian EV buyers.

With the December 2026 unveil now firmly on the calendar and a full launch expected to start in early 2027, the on-going testing suggest that Honda is set to arrive prepared. The sightings in Faridabad have only served to whet appetites, as the brand’s first global electric SUV progresses from concept to showroom-ready reality.
