Volvo is set to make inroads into the Indian market with the launch of two new electric vehicles; the EX90 and the ES90 on October 12. The Swedish automaker aims to introduce a flagship three-row electric SUV and a luxury electric sedan, expanding the brand’s footprint in the premium EV space.

The Volvo EX90 arrives as the company’s flagship three-row electric SUV. It comes with a powerful 106 kWh battery pack and a dual electric motor all-wheel drive system producing 456 hp and 670 Nm of torque in the Ultra spec destined for India, claiming a driving range of up to 625 km under ideal conditions. Generously sized in length and height, the EX90 offers true practicality with the use of three rows of seating, but retains the clean Scandinavian styling familiar to recent Volvo models. The car features a bold front end, smooth body lines and distinctive lighting, while the elevated ride height and overall proportions give it a strong road presence that is appropriate for both urban and long-haul driving.

The EX90’s interior provides a generous amount of space for its occupants, with the dashboard dominated by a large 14.5-inch central touchscreen and a clear 9-inch digital driver display. It also features a high-end Bowers & Wilkins audio system, soft touch surfaces, carefully selected materials and supportive seats to create a calm and luxurious ambiance. A comprehensive array of advanced driver assistance technologies comprise the car’s standard equipment, fitting with Volvo’s commitment to safety; the EX90 features adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, collision avoidance systems and an array of sensors, ensuring both convenience and peace of mind for the driver.

Joining the EX90 on the same launch day is the Volvo ES90, which will strengthen the automaker’s presence in the luxury electric sedan space. Globally, the ES90 will be available with 92 kWh and 106 kWh battery packs, with power outputs ranging from 333 hp in the more efficient variants to as much as 680 hp in the performance-inspired derivative. An 800-volt architecture allows for DC fast-charging at up to 350 kW, enabling the vehicle to recover a substantial amount of range in a short time-frame, with the longest range variant claiming up to 696 km on the WLTP cycle. The ES90 is sure to offer both efficiency and the ability to tackle long-haul journeys with comfort, fitting with the brand’s reputation for practicality.

The ES90’s design adheres to Volvo’s elegant but understated aesthetic, featuring a sleek silhouette, balanced proportions and distinctive lighting to set it apart from competitors. Inside, the car offers comfort and technology as a priority, with high-quality materials, supportive seating and a contemporary digital interface creating a modern and sophisticated ambience. Similar to the EX90, the ES90 is expected to feature a comprehensive array of safety and assistance technologies that will contribute to the car’s overall sense of security and convenience.

The EX90 and ES90 represent Volvo’s dual-pronged approach to the electric vehicle market, offering practicality with the EX90’s three-row seating and a more dynamic and elegant sedan option with the ES90. The shared launch date suggests that the automaker is confident in the appeal of both cars, with a desire to present a broad array of electric vehicles to the Indian market at once. Featuring advanced battery technology, powerful powertrains, luxurious interiors and an emphasis on safety, the EX90 and ES90 are set to appeal to customers that are interested in premium electric vehicles with Scandinavian flair.
