Tata Motors is set to launch several new electric vehicles within the next few years. The company currently has a comprehensive electric vehicle (EV) range in India, including the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, Curvv EV, Harrier EV and Sierra EV. The next phase of Tata’s EV strategy would see the launch of larger family SUVs, premium electric vehicles and new body styles.
Among the most anticipated are the Tata Safari EV, Tata Avinya range as well as other future electric vehicles. Much of the information about names, specifications that have been seen circulating online are still unofficial and the expected prices and launch timelines should be considered estimates until Tata Motors’ official announcement.
Tata Safari EV
The Tata Safari EV is expected to become Tata Motors’ next three-row electric SUV and it would be positioned above the Harrier EV in the company’s electric portfolio. As per reports, Tata is targeting the festive season of 2026 for the Safari EV, although the exact launch date has not yet been officially announced.
The electric Safari is expected to make use of Tata’s new-generation EV architecture and it is likely that the company will share much of the battery and powertrain technology with the Harrier EV. Reports point towards 65kWh and 75kWh battery options with both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations likely to be available. The larger battery option could offer a range of more than 600km under the applicable test cycle, but the final certified figure will only be known closer to launch. The Safari EV is also expected to feature a premium cabin with a large multi-screen dashboard, advanced connected technology and ADAS features. The expected price could start at around ₹22.5 lakh and stretch towards ₹30 lakh ex-showroom, putting it in competition with other premium electric SUVs.
Tata Avinya EV
The Tata Avinya represents a big step into the premium electric vehicle market for Tata Motors and unlike the company’s current mass-market EVs, the Avinya family is being developed as a premium electric range which will make use of a dedicated born-electric architecture.
Tata’s original Avinya concept was designed to use the company’s Gen 3 EV architecture with a focus on space, technology and premium interiors. Tata officially says the Avinya concept is intended to enter the market by 2027.
The production strategy has evolved, with recent reports suggesting that the first production model could be the Avinya X, a premium electric SUV. The model is expected to use a platform derived from the Chery-JLR ecosystem, while Tata is expected to adapt the electronics, software and vehicle systems for the Indian market. Detailed battery capacity, motor output and range figures have not yet been officially confirmed, but the Avinya is expected to offer much more premium technology and performance than Tata’s existing EVs. The Tata Avinya is expected to arrive around 2027 with an estimated price in the region of ₹35 lakh to ₹40 lakh ex-showroom.
Tata Tigor EV / Aeris EV Update
The Tigor EV could effectively transition into the new Aeris identity as a part of Tata’s next product update. This means that the Aeris EV could replace the current Tigor EV positioning while offering updated styling, technology and possibly a revised electric powertrain. Reports on the upcoming Tata product programme have stated that both the Tiago and Tigor line-ups are set to see updates, including their EV versions. The refreshed EVs could also benefit from newer drivetrain technology that has been introduced on Tata’s more recent electric models. This makes the Aeris EV particularly interesting for buyers looking for a relatively affordable electric sedan while the Safari EV and Avinya will target much larger and premium segments.
Tata Tiago EV Update
The Tiago EV is currently Tata’s entry point into electric passenger cars and an updated version is also expected as a part of the company’s product refresh strategy. The facelifted Tiago EV could receive exterior styling changes as well as new interior features as well as improvements to its electric drivetrain. Reports have stated that Tata could introduce newer drivetrain technology from its latest EV models into the updated entry-level EVs. The Tiago EV currently offers a relatively compact battery and city-friendly positioning, making it different from the larger SUVs that Tata is preparing. The facelift could help Tata continue its presence in the affordable EV segment.
Tata’s Future EV Line-up
Beyond the Safari EV and Avinya, Tata Motors is set to launch further electric models within the coming years. The company has previously stated that several new EV nameplates will be introduced by FY2030, expanding its electric portfolio into various segments. This means that Tata’s future EV strategy is likely to cover everything from affordable urban cars to premium SUVs. The company’s current portfolio already includes various segments while the upcoming Safari EV is set to add a three-row electric SUV and the Avinya family is set to take Tata into a more premium part of the EV market.
For now, the Safari EV and Avinya are the main upcoming Tata EVs to watch out for, while the Sierra EV has already entered the market. Launch dates, battery specifications and prices for future models could change as development progresses and the final figures will be dependent on Tata Motors’ official announcement.
