Tata Motors is set to disrupt the premium EV segment once again with the upcoming Avinya, which has transformed from a stunning concept to an actual production car that is set to debut in 2027. Unlike many of the company’s other EVs, this one takes a more mature route – focusing on luxury, comfort, efficiency and technology. The first production model, Avinya X, is already in development and has been spotted on Indian roads – the wait for Tata’s next big thing is almost over. The upcoming Avinya will be built around a powerful electric platform that promises to deliver uncompromising range and quick charging speeds.
Although the concept was built on a dedicated Gen 3 platform, the production model will utilise a more versatile architecture that will allow for better packaging, a flat floor and improved dynamics. Combined with massive battery packs (65-80 kWh), the Avinya will offer an insane range, while also allowing for rapid charging up to 200 kW – the latter is expected to provide enough range for another 150+ km in less than 30 minutes, making it one of the most capable long-range EVs in India.
When it comes to design, the Avinya looks nothing like anything else on the market. The concept was a clever blend of a hatchback, SUV and MPV – and although the production model is expected to utilise a more conventional approach to design, it will still retain the sense of style and class that made this concept so special. Expect a more premium take on the coupe-SUV design language, which will set it apart from other Indian premium EVs and have a chance to rival some of the best-selling luxury imports to India. Inside, the Avinya is set to utilise space and comfort to deliver on its promise of uncompromising luxury.
Although some aspects of the concept interior – namely the absence of any screens – are likely to be toned down in favour of more tech-friendly solutions, the overall feeling of openness and space, plus the use of premium materials will ensure that the Avinya is much more than just a “premium budget” car. Instead, it will strive to offer true executive comfort with its spa-like interior that will make all occupants feel right at home. Technology in the Avinya is expected to be powerful but subtle – with most of the car’s functions being managed by intuitive, unobtrusive interfaces.
The upcoming Avinya will offer cutting-edge connectivity and AI features that will rival anything from the top luxury car brands, but it will do so without distracting the driver – this is the type of technology that disappears once mastered. Sustainability is set to play a crucial role in the Avinya, both on the inside (eco-conscious materials) and on the outside – with this vehicle being a true “premium EV” for the discerning buyer. Designed to appeal to the global market but engineered and developed in India, the upcoming Avinya will also serve as a statement piece from Tata – proving that India can make world-class electric vehicles.
The car is set to roll off the production lines at panapakkam in Tamil Nadu, utilising India’s growing EV infrastructure. Needless to say, the pricing is also expected to play a major role – with many speculating that the Avinya will be positioned as Tata’s “flagship EV”. With the entry-level model likely to start at around thirty-five to forty lakh, it will be interesting to see how the Avinya will fare against the competition. If Tata can manage to pull it off, the Avinya will undoubtedly become one of the most successful Indian EVs of 2027. It will serve as a reminder that, when it comes to electric cars, India can do much more than just follow the trends – and may well lead them one day.
