Mahindra has widened its Battery-as-a-Service programme to cover the company’s full electric SUV lineup, bringing the BE 6 SPORTEQ, XEV 9e and XEV 9S under the scheme. The expansion is intended to make electric vehicle ownership more accessible by allowing customers to finance the vehicle and the battery as two distinct components through a dual financing structure that significantly reduces the initial purchase price of the car itself.
Under the BaaS model, buyers pay a lower amount for the vehicle body and powertrain while the battery is treated as a separate asset. This separation is achieved through a unique dual financing arrangement in which the cost of the battery is spread over time rather than being included in the full vehicle price. Battery EMIs begin at Rs 3.75 per kilometre, linking the ongoing payment directly to actual usage and giving owners a clearer picture of their running costs. The result is a more manageable entry point into electric mobility without the burden of paying for the entire battery pack at the time of purchase.
By extending the programme across its complete electric SUV range, Mahindra is offering the same flexible ownership path for the BE 6 SPORTEQ, the XEV 9e and the XEV 9S. Customers interested in any of these models can now choose the Battery-as-a-Service route, which lowers the upfront vehicle price and replaces a large one-time battery cost with structured per-kilometre payments. This approach addresses one of the primary barriers to EV adoption—the higher initial outlay driven largely by battery technology—and presents a more usage-aligned alternative for buyers who prefer to spread the battery expense over the life of the vehicle.
The dual financing structure also provides greater transparency in cost ownership. Vehicle financing covers the car, while the battery EMI reflects real-world distance travelled, creating a payment model that scales with how much the SUV is driven. For Mahindra, rolling BaaS out to the entire electric SUV lineup signals a broader commitment to reducing financial friction and encouraging more customers to switch to its zero-emission models. With the scheme now available on the BE 6 SPORTEQ, XEV 9e and XEV 9S, the company is positioning Battery-as-a-Service as a practical and scalable solution for making electric SUVs easier to bring home.
